Wan Hai Partners with Taichung Branch of Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency to Plant Trees and Restore Coastal Biod
2026/04/17

Taipei, Apr. 17, 2026 – On April 17, Wan Hai Lines joined hands with the Taichung Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency to hold a tree-planting event in a coastal protection forest in Qingshui District, Taichung. Customers and business partners were invited to participate, planting native Taiwanese species together to support coastal ecological restoration and inject new vitality into biodiversity conservation.

The afforestation site is located near Gaomei Wetlands, within the Taichung Coastal Wetland Conservation Corridor of Taiwan’s National Ecological Network. The area features a mosaic of coastal forests, wetlands, and agricultural land, forming a diverse habitat that supports a wide range of species. These include wetland birds such as the Black-faced Spoonbill and Saunders’s Gull, as well as rare land crab populations. The interconnected environments create a rich and delicate ecological network, making this coastline an important biodiversity habitat in Taiwan.

During the event, participants planted 100 native screw pine. The Taichung Branch will subsequently plant an additional 100 Bambusa utilis Lin to gradually establish a coastal windbreak, helping to mitigate the impacts of monsoons, sand drift, and salt spray. The area will also retain cogon grassland to the south of the windbreak, and through ecological corridors and habitat enhancement, provide a more suitable environment for the conservation-priority species, the Eastern Grass Owl.

Guided by a commitment to give back to nature, Wan Hai has long invested in tree planting and ecological restoration. Human affinity for nature is instinctive; planting trees is not merely an individual act, but a choice to leave something meaningful for others, allowing land and life to thrive sustainably. As human development has borrowed habitats from nature, tree planting and restoration represent a way to gradually return them by bringing forests and ecosystems back, supporting biodiversity recovery, and advancing harmonious coexistence with nature.

Since launching the “Wan Hai Tree Planting and Maintenance Project” in 2022, Wan Hai has continued to promote afforestation and long-term maintenance across Taiwan. As of the end of March 2026, the company has supported the planting and care of over one million trees, with 608,919 already planted. By selecting suitable species based on local environmental conditions and prioritizing native plants, Wan Hai aims to restore habitats and enable plants, insects, and birds to gradually return, reactivating natural ecological cycles.

Environmental protection has always been one of Wan Hai’s core business principles. Moving forward, the company will continue to work with partners across sectors to advance tree planting, habitat restoration, and biodiversity conservation, contributing to a more sustainable future for both nature and society.
