Wan Hai Lines Wins Sapphire Award in NOAA’s Blue Whale Protection Program
2026/04/24

Taipei, Apr. 24, 2026 – Wan Hai Lines has been honored with the prestigious Sapphire Award under the Blue Whale Protection Program, led by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This important initiative, supported by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), runs annually from May to December—coinciding with peak ozone levels and the feeding and migration season of whales. During this period, NOAA issues voluntary vessel speed reduction (VSR) requests, asking ships to travel at 10 knots or less within designated zones. This measure not only reduces threats to endangered blue whales but also helps safeguard marine biodiversity, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality. Wan Hai Lines has been an active participant in the program since 2021, when it earned the Silver Award in its first year. Through continuous dedication, the company went on to receive the Gold Award from 2022 to 2025, and in 2026 achieved the highest honor—the Sapphire Award. This recognition highlights Wan Hai’s strong commitment to environmental protection and its ongoing efforts to preserve whale populations while ensuring cleaner air. Looking ahead, Wan Hai Lines is eager to collaborate with more partners to contribute to the health of our planet and to promote the prosperity of marine biodiversity.
